Mighty Mud Mania
Mighty Mud Mania is a highlight of Scottsdale's summer. Every year 160 tonnes of "clean" dirt and water are sifted into freshly dug pits in Chaparral Park and thousands of kids show up ready for some muddy fun... There is a mini mud-course for the under 6s, while Mudville makes sure that even the tiniest tots get well and truly spattered. There are also three big, age-specific pits just to play in. The courses for 7-to 17-year-olds have obstacles offering fantastically filthy fun. The Knee Bender sends them through mud under a big tarpaulin, Tube Trouble gets them slithering through big-tyre inner tubes and the Tube Dive demands a dive through a huge inner tube into a 1.5m-deep mud-pit. They finally start to clean up at the Pit Fall, plunging into a pool of water... After a last hose-down from the fire department, the fun continues on 30-metre waterslides. Old clothes are a must and registration is free, which makes for a "dirt cheap" day out for all the family.
